Winter Backyard Bird Feeding
By Christopher Bialek

The winter season brings a variety of birds to backyards across the Greater Toronto Area. TRCA is hosting a Winter Backyard Bird Feeder workshop to support the Great Backyard Bird Count program happening from February 17 to 20, 2023.

This fun, family-friendly workshop will introduce common backyard birds, feeder styles, seed mixes, and maintenance. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to expert birders!

This workshop offers opportunities to build bird identification skills and contribute to important Citizen Science work. We will be spending most of our time outside so please dress warmly.

Registered participants will be given a bird feeder and bird seed to take home along with resources to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count program. Observations can be submitted from the comfort of home!

This event is intended for Ages 6+:

  • Beginner level information
  • Activities and concepts that are friendly for all ages
  • Intended audience includes children, youth, and adults
    • One bird feeder per household
